  UPDATE FROM THE HYLES FAMILY:

  Saturday, February 3, 2001, 6:00 pm.

Bro. Hyles' condition remains critical but stable.  He will undergo

surgery Monday morning around 8:00 am at the University of Chicago

Hospital.  He will have 4 or 5 bypasses as well as a valve replacement.

The surgery is expected to last from 6 to 8 hours.  As soon as the

surgeon meets with the family, an update will be posted on this web site.

Although Bro. Hyles is experiencing some severe pain, he is in very good

spirits.  The family is extremely optimistic but covets everyone's

prayers.  Bro. Hyles was very pleased when he learned that his surgeon is

a born-again Christian.  Bro. Hyles is dreading the surgery but is at

peace concerning the need of it and is not afraid.

When asked if there was anything he needed, his one request was for a

Diet Dr. Pepper.  Bro. Hyles has kept his sense of humor and sarcasm, and

has teased with the nurses and the staff, even in his pain.

Mrs. Hyles appreciates the many prayers of everyone as well as honoring

  their privacy during this time.
